Kanika A Wilson

Kanika Aina Wilson answered her Father’s Call on Friday, April 10, 2026 at Lexington Medical Center, West Columbia, SC. Kanika was born on July 30, 1976 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was an only child to Bettie Blocker Owens and the late Albert Leon Wilson. Kanika graduated in 1994 from Larkin High School in Elgin, Illinois, where she was an active student Black History Production, Girl’s Basketball, Cross Cultural Committee, Fresh-Soph Tennis Team, Girl’s Track and Field, Drama Club, “Share The Dream”-Black History Month Production, Black History Club, Peer Tutor, and Deans’ Office Page. She also proudly served on Homecoming Court, and she was an honor student. Following Kanika’s High School Graduation, she received numerous acceptance letters from colleges and universities. However, she proudly confirmed her matriculation at Howard University, with a Business Administration Major. She attended Howard University, until her untimely unfortunate illness during her Junior Year. At Howard, she was a member of the Illinois Club and other organizations. At the age of 16, while being a devoted member of St. James AME Church in Elgin, Illinois, Kanika accepted the Lord as her Savior. There, she was actively involved in the Young People’s Department (YPD) and sang in the Youth Choir. Kanika was also a proud Heir-O-Link and made her debut into society as a debutante through the Links Chicago Chapter Cotillion, the Chicago Chapter of the Links, Incorporated. She was committed to community outreach and service, and she was always seeking ways to uplift others. Those who knew Kanika will remember her as a young lady of grace, warmth, and determination. She was deeply affectionate, endlessly caring, and resilient in the face of life’s challenges. Her generous spirit knew no bounds—she would give freely of herself to anyone in need. Kanika was a loving young lady that would literally give you the shirt off her back. Kanika leaves to cherish her precious memory, her loving devoted mother, Bettie Blocker Owens and her stepfather, Roger Owens of Columbia, SC; aunts Jannitt Cox, Brenda Blocker, Terry McLeod (Paul); uncle George Milton Wilson(Cookie); great Aunts Rose Ann Williams and Janie Knight (Wilkerson); cousins who were like siblings Tondeleo Day (Donnine), Toriano Blocker (LaTeehah ), Alicia Day, and Cecily Nelson; a very special friend Safarrah Lawson; and a host of other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Mark Wilson; her maternal grandparents, James and Mazie Blocker; her paternal grandparents, George and Virginia Wilson; and her aunt, Ann Blocker Burnette.
